Meet RRT's Brilliant Minds
Mr Marks Rapoo is a development planning professional with more than twelve years of experience in planning and project management in local government. Mr Rapoo has spent most of his career with the Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM). As a manager with the RLM Project Management Unit from 2006 to 2009, he twice served as the municipality’s Acting Director of Technical and Infrastructure Services and he also has extensive experience in municipal procurement environment having served in various committees as a member and the chairperson of the Bid Specification Committee in 2007. He was then appointed to the FIFA Organising Committee as Rustenburg’s venue transport coordinator for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. He rejoined the RLM in August 2010, when he was appointed as the unit manager of Roads and Stormwater.
He gained his early experience in project management over a number of years with the Department of Transport as a Senior Project Coordinator and with the Local Municipality of Madibeng as a Projects Coordinator, and he also spent a year as a Site Cost Clerk with Bafokeng Construction.
Before moving into his career in development planning and infrastructure development, Mr Rapoo spent five years as a high school teacher (between 1992 and 1997), three years of which he was subject teacher and another two as a Head of Department. Mr Rapoo has a BA(Ed), a Higher Diploma in Development Planning and an Advanced Certificate in Project Management, in addition to several professional management courses under his belt.
He is an active graduate member of Institute of Municipal Engineers of Southern Africa (IMESA) and has recently affiliated with Project Management Institute (PMI) and is currently working towards gaining certification as Project Management Professional (PMP).
